I have a recipe that calls for a few tablespoons of red wine vinegar. (it’s actually for a grilled vegetable terrine.) Can I use balsamic vinegar instead? I have a feeling that it will work well and I also don’t want to run to the store to buy a whole bottle of red wine vinegar but I wonder if I will be completely changing the taste. It’s my first time trying the recipe out. What do you think?

thanks!

You can substitute vinegars in recipes. It will change the flavor some. If the vinegar is a major part of the flavoring, a substitution can change the flavor quite a bit.

If you don’t have red wine vinegar on hand because you don’t like it as well as balsamic, then try the balsamic. When you taste the dish, you’ll know if the balsamic worked well in it. If the balsamic doesn’t work well, and you still think the recipe has potential, then go buy the red wine vinegar and try it again.

Buy the Red Wine Vinegar, the author of the book probably hasn’t tried this dish with Balsamic Vinegar. Try a small sample of the ingredients with Balsamic Vinegar you will know if it tastes right.

    Then decide

Having two types of Vinegar will not blow the budget
